Choosing Gorgeous Concrete

About Me

Choosing Gorgeous Concrete

When we made the decision to build a home, we had no idea what we were getting into. In addition to selecting siding colors and finding carpet that would work with our design scheme, we also wanted the outside to look incredible. Instead of choosing traditional gray concrete, we decided to work with professional cement contractors to create a gorgeous sidewalk and driveway. We paid to have the driveway stamped and stained, and it looked amazing when they were finished. This blog is all about the difference a decorated driveway, walkway, or sidewalk can make to your home, so that you can create a gorgeous estate.

3 Ways To Keep Your House's Foundation Strong

If you want your house to last for years and years, you are going to want to make sure that you take care of your home's foundation and keep it strong. Here are three steps that you can take to make sure that your home's foundation is strong and stable.

#1 Fill In Any Cracks

As soon as you see a crack, no matter how tiny that crack is, you need to address it right away. What can look like a tiny hairline crack can easily spread out and become much larger over time. You can prevent a small hairline crack from ruining your foundation by inspecting the outside of your house a couple of times a year for cracks. When you find a crack on the outside of your home, use epoxy glue designed specifically for concrete repair to fill in the crack. After you apply the epoxy glue, go back the next day to check it and make sure that the crack was properly filled.

#2 Keep The Grading Around Your Home

Second, you need to make sure that the soil around your home is properly graded. It needs to slope down away from your home so that water always flows down away from your home and does not accumulate next to your foundation. Water accumulating next to your home can compromise the integrity of the foundation.

After a big rain storm, go outside and walk around your home. Make sure that the water does not accumulate anywhere. If it does pile up, fix the grading around your home so that the water drains properly.

#3 Keep An Effective Moisture Barrier

Finally, you need to make sure that you keep an effective barrier against moisture around the edge of your home to keep water from compromising the integrity of your home's foundation. You will want to dig around your home and have a foundation waterproofing membrane moisture barrier installed around your home to keep water away from your foundation. When you put the dirt back on top of the barrier, you should also put down a layer of gravel. The gravel will help any moisture that does get near your home drain properly into the surrounding soil without compromising the integrity of your foundation.

If you need help assessing the grading of your home or installing a moisture barrier, hire a local foundation expert, such as Mershon Concrete, to help you. Investing in and taking care of your home's foundation will help protect the strength and integrity of your home.
